Medically Tailored Food Becomes Covered Benefit in California

We’ve achieved a major milestone in our work to integrate healthy food into the health care system! Beginning in January of 2022, California’s Medicaid health plans will be able to offer – and pay for – medically tailored meals and medically supportive foods for their members. Medically tailored meals – what we provide to our clients every day – have been consistently shown to improve the health of patients while helping them avoid costly emergency department visits and hospitalizations.
This transformative shift in how California is defining health care means that over time millions of Californians who are living in poverty and challenged by a serious or chronic illness will have access to nourishing meals that can help them get and stay well.
