Medically Tailored Meals Bill

Dear Friend,

As you may know, Ceres Community Project is deeply committed to providing nourishing, healing meals to our clients year after year. We have many partners across the country dedicated to this same mission. Together, we’ve not only supported thousands of clients, but we’ve also conducted pilot projects and studies with insurers and healthcare providers.

It’s this direct service work in our communities that helped lay the groundwork for a very exciting development: the Medically Tailored Home-Delivered Meal Demonstration Pilot Act of 2020 (HR 6674). Born out of the desire to address the critical link between nutrition and health, this legislation would set up a pilot project across 10 states, similar to the one we are a part of now in California, to study just how home-delivered medically tailored meals impact patient health and healthcare costs. We applaud bipartisan Congressional members James McGovern (D-Massachusetts), Chellie Pingree (D-Maine), Dr. Roger Marshall (R-Kansas), and Jacqueline R. Walorski (R-Indiana) for its introduction to the House, as well as our Food Is Medicine Coalition partners for inspiring these Congressional members to author this bill through their innovative and essential work.

Thank you for supporting our work here at Ceres. Because of your dedication to our local community, there is now a potential to help many more people here and around the country get access to the food they need to manage their conditions and improve their health. We’ll keep you posted on the progress of this bill and opportunities to show advocate for its passage.

Warmly,

Cathryn Couch
