As the project's chefs, our teen volunteers prepare, cook and package the beautiful, delicious and nourishing meals that we send each week to our clients who are dealing with life-threatening illness. Working in our kitchen with professional chef mentors, teen volunteers learn how to cook healthy meals using fresh, local ingredients while making a substantial contribution to our community.
We currently cook on ~
Tuesday from 2 to 5
Wednesday from 1 to 5:15
Thursday from 1 to 5:15
The kitchen is located at 7351 Bodega Ave in Sebastopol. Our new home shares the parking lot with the Sebastopol Fire Station. (map)
If you are interested in joining the Ceres Project kitchen team, the first step is to come to a Volunteer Orientation. Orientations are held the third Tuesday of the month from 5:30 to 6:30 at our kitchen. The dates are listed below. Once you have done that, we will schedule you as quickly as possible. This may take several weeks. What works best is if you can commit to a regular time, for example, every Wednesday from 1 to 5:15 for some period of time.
At this point, we are scheduling many teens every other week to make room for everyone. Teens do not usually work more than one day a week, and as mentioned earlier, often it is every other week. During the summer we ask that teens come for the entire shift but during the school year we accommodate a wide range of schedules with teen volunteers showing up between 1 and 3pm. We ask for at least a two hour commitment per shift.
There is a limit to how many people can work at any given time in our new kitchen. If you are not on the schedule, it isn't possible to just drop in and lend a hand. And, if you've committed to a shift, we are counting on you to be there to help get the work done.
You do not need cooking experience to work in Ceres Community Project kitchen. There are a wide range of jobs for everyone from beginning cooks to those with more knowledge.
1. Come to the Volunteer Orientation.
No need to RSVP. See dates below.
2. Complete the Teen Application and Emergency Form
and either bring it to the Volunteer Orientation (forms will be there also) or email it to volunteer@ceresproject.org.

3. Read the Teen Kitchen Orientation. This provides important information about what to wear and what to expect when you come to the kitchen.

4. Finally, we've also attached a pdf file of our Teen Chef's Manual which includes photos of our teen chefs at work, what to expect in the kitchen, basic cooking information, and interesting facts about the relationship between what we eat and our health.
