Educating all sectors of our community about the relationship between what we eat and the health of our bodies, our communities and the earth…

What and how we eat may be the single most powerful way to support our vitality and well-being. It makes sense. The food we eat literally becomes us. And for hundreds of thousands of years, humans have co-evolved in relationship to the plants and animals that grew and lived around us. The foods our ancestors ate were fresh, local, whole and organic.

In the past 50 years, our diet, especially in the United States, has undergone a radical change, one that our bodies don’t know how to deal with. The result is an explosion of diseases including cancer, heart disease, diabetes and auto-immune conditions such as chronic fatigue.

The scientific evidence is catching up with what makes intuitive sense. Researchers are now saying that one-third of all cancer deaths could be avoided by simple changes in diet and exercise. Diabetes and heart disease are also significantly related to how we eat.

At The Ceres Community Project, our commitment to fostering a healthy relationship with food extends to all aspects of our work. Our teen chefs get hands-on experience preparing whole foods. Cooking meals for people dealing with serious illness gives them an embodied experience of what food is really for. We provide Ceres Community Project clients with information about what we include in their meals, what we avoid, and why. Week after week, as they eat the delicious food delivered by our volunteers, they experience personally and powerfully how healing these foods are.

We also offer a variety of classes and lectures, many of them available to the general public. These include:
