This four week course is available to anyone who is recovering from serious illness, their caregivers or spouses, and home health providers who support others in creating a healthier life through cooking with whole foods.
An introduction to whole foods nutrition; how to set up your whole foods kitchen; pantry basics, organic shopping lists, and an equipment overview help to make your kitchen run it easy and safely. There is time for questions and answers during our lunch.
The vital role digestive health plays in your ability to absorb and use the nutrients from your food is the focus of the class. We discuss the physiology of your digestive system and how it works as well as simple strategies for supporting healthy digestion. During class we prepare simple ferments such as sauerkraut, kim chi and easy to prepare, nourishing breakfast strategies which support healthy digestion during illness, such as congee and smoothies.
Illness saps our energy. The class focuses on lifestyle activities such as QiGong and Polarity exercise to improve your energy and foods that are nutrient rich such as sprouts, superfoods, sea vegetables, and herbal adaptogens. Lunch is filled with nutrient rich recipes make every bite a nourishing bite.
Understanding how the body’s immune system functions help us to make healing choices about food and lifestyle. The body’s terrain is sensitive but may return to health with diet choices that support it. During class we investigate how whole foods, mushrooms, cruciferous vegetables, healing broths and herbs help support immune wellness. Meal preparation is focused on immune supportive foods as well as delicious flavors.
